Thanks to a great guide by mechdrew, I was able to install OSX on my Dell Mini (Inspiron 910). And after a couple of days of troubleshooting e.g. couldn’t mount .dmg files, codec overrun issues etc., I’m writing this post from my Dell Mini running 10.5.7!
Some pointers for those willing to try this:
- Follow the guide USB Installation via Mac (this is the guide I used).
- For any issues with .dmg files not mounting, or issues with USB sticks, drives etc., see here.
- Don’t use the Mac’s Software update to update to the latest version of OSX
The key to fixing the USB issues etc., is to update to 10.5.7 or 10.5.8 right after you’ve installed OSX from your retail disc. How to do this is in the guide.
And if you run into “codec overrun” issues, it could be to do with your router’s firewall and how it’s not downloading all packets of data required for each installation file. To fix this disable SPI. This worked for me :)

As Mac fans would know, this week is Macworld Expo week! The annual conference and expo takes place in San Francisco and it’s where Apple’s Steve Jobs launches to the world Apple’s latest and greatest products. For example, last year’s expo was all about the iPhone.
This year the MacBook Air is the latest and greatest product. It’s dubbed the thinnest notebook in the world! And weighting in at 3lbs it’s probably the lightest too.
When the time came for Steve Jobs to present the MacBook Air to the audience at Macworld Expo, he reached for a manila envelope of a table on the stage, and careful slid out the MacBook Air to gasps from the audience! That’s how thin it is.
Based on the above two friends have had the foresight to develop and market a product based on the MacBook Air, just a day after the launch of the notebook! Named AirMail, it’s a protective sleeve for the notebook designed as a manila envelope. This is genius I reckon and I hope it makes them tons of money.
