Myself and some mates went to see a great gig last Friday (28th) night in the Button Factory in Dublin’s Temple Bar. “These Charming Men” are a tribute/cover band to one of the greatest bands ever to come out of England. Yes the Smiths!!
Great night, and the band are so good you feel like you’ve been transported back in time to a Smith’s gig in the 1980′s! :)
A great app for the Nokia Internet Tablet (IT) has been released, Canola 2. Unfortunately it’s not easy to get this app to install on the IT as the app uses the maemo repositories. And yes you’ve guessed it, these repositories are getting hammered again!!
Tried most of last night to install Canola 2 but had to give up after numerous attempts (i.e using Application Manager and apt-get).
But thankfully got the app installed this morning thanks to the help of itT member wolf08. He/she came up with the brilliant idea of creating their own Canola repository on his/her server. This allows users like me to download and install the app in less then 10 mins. Brilliant!

Well it’s official, OS2008 has been released and is ready to be installed on your Nokia Internet tablet (IT). Now before you get carried away and start heading over to tablets-dev.nokia.com to start downloading the .bin installation file (you’ll need your product id code BTW), be warned… the Nokia servers are being hammered presently and the 138mb download could take up to 5-6 hrs.!
Best to search itT’s forums for someone who’s uploaded the .bin file to their server. Otherwise you’ll be waiting, waiting…..
This is one of the reasons I’m only posting today about OS2008. It’s been a couple of frustrating days trying to update the OS2008 on my IT mainly because the Nokia/maemo repositories are also getting hammered, and therefore the majority of IT users and I can’t reinstall their original apps!
I’d suggest you read Jonathan’s article over at maemoapps.com if you are updating from OS2008 beta. It’s a very good article and will help eliminate any frustration you may incur updating the OS.
Also keep an eye on itT’s forums for regular updates on how/when the Nokia/maemo repositories will calm down and resume normal service.
